Day 96: Pau, France

Today, I was really, really sick, and this made me sad.  I had my little Language & Acting class.  We are participating in a performace on Tuesday.  We are doing a recitation of 4 texts from Raymond Queneau's Exercises in Style.  It will be great fun.  For lunch, I ate fish, broccoli, and some kind of grain.  It tasted like straw.  My afternoon class was fine, and we had a visitor.

This is the building manager's cat.  He was just chillin'.  Like Mrs. Norris, I guess.  Jun did NOT like him because black cats are not good luck in Japan.

After class, I stopped at Carrefour to get some stuff.  When I was there, I forgot what I needed, so I just bought some candy.  I got some Smurfs gummies, but here, they are not the Smurfs:

Yes.  The Smurfs are les Schtroumpf.

When I was walking back from Carrefour, I found a pretty tree.  It is pretty warm here, in general.  Much warmer than Dallas.  And there are still lots or purdy leaves.

Once I got home, I played a little, and that's about it.  I am feeling pretty sick, so I mostly just relaxed and took antibiotics and ate Ricola cough drops.

  2. By the way, the leaves are still mostly green here in Dallas, and we just had our first frost a couple of nights ago. (I might suspect this is related in some way to global warming, but we don't actually believe in that sort of bunk here in Texas. http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/oct/14/rick-perry-texas-censorship-environment-report

  3. Just for the record... It turns out that the Smurfs are actually French-speaking. They come from Belgium, where they are known as "Les Schtroumphs".

One blogger posted the following comment in
    The Urban Dictionary:

"Smurf sounds SO STUPID, so never use that word! Always say 'schtroumpf'.

Yes... And that would be because "schtroumpf" doesn't sound stupid.

I guess this must be a question of cultural perspective. I'm pretty sure 'The Schtroumpfs' wouldn't have gone over real big in the USA from a marketing perspective.
But still... as I don't want to sound stupid, I'll definitely start saying "schtroumpf" from now on.
    Live and learn!
