Day 32: Pau, France

When I woke up today, and then I did some free buzzing/mouthpiece buzzing.  Then, I sat up in bed and picked up my trumpet and started playing.  It was really awesome.  I had a very good practice session the the morning.  I still sound terrible, but fundamentally, I feel really strong, and I feel like my sound is improving.  Still waiting on the breakthrough. ;)  After my great start to my day, I left for class late, like I do every day, because I thought I had time for one more lip slur.  I made it just in time, and class was good.  Because I didn't eat breakfast because I was practicing, I had this for breakfast.:

It's healthy. Because it's fruit... (Breanna held my candy)
It is like a Mounds bar.  But this is more of like, a Paradise stick.

My lunch was really good today.  And very French.  I think.  It was tomatoes stuffed with little beef pucks, and ratatouille and pommes de terre sautees. (That is French for jumping potatoes.) It was very good.  When I went back to class, I got a coffee from the machine, and Breanna gave me a twix bar.  It was awesome.
My Orangina from lunch.

After class, I tried to go to the post office to mail a letter, but the post office was closed for renovations. Then I went home and practiced and had dinner with my family.  It was good.  My trumpet session this afternoon/evening was really great.  I felt a lot better this evening, and I got to work on the opera music.  It is so nice to finally play a piece for vocalists that is not in ridiculous keys.  It is basically all in C, Bb, F, G, D and A.  It is written for A trumpet, and I only have my Bb, so now I am playing in B, A, E, F#, C#, and B.  Lol awesome... It will be good for me, I'm sure.

  2. As if you didn't have enough to worry about, you also have to transpose everything "on the fly"?!! Oh well... It's only 1/2 tone. Glad it's going better.

We saw Mendelssohn 4th Symphony last weekend at DSO, and the trumpets were playing some instruments I couldn't recall seeing before... larger than normal, more like a flugelhorn, except didn't sound like a flugelhorn, and played sideways. I determined that they were rotary trumpets, mostly used in Germany. You can order one at Music & Arts for just USD$4,675!!... They only come in C & Bb, tho.
