Day 3: Liverpool, UK

Today was a great day.  Finally got some sleep, in a very comfortable bed, and woke up feeling good.  I woke up and showered, in a very fancy shower.  Danny and I then headed to Liverpool via buss and train and visited/did a tour of Anfield Stadium, where Liverpool FC plays.  The tour was pretty cool, and I got to go into the teams club house.  Very sparse compared with a typical high school locker room.

This is Danny and me touching the sign leading over the stair that lead out to the pitch.

After the tour, we went into the gift shop, and I bought a sweet Liverpool kit. (Kit is British for jersey.)  After, we went up to the Boot Room Pub on the second floor of the stadium. (Boot is British for cleat.) Don't worry, there were no boots(cleats) in the pub.  Except for the decorative ones over the booths.  We then went to the Hillsborough memorial.  This is a memorial to the 96 fans killed in a crushing death due to over crowding.  Next to the memorial, is the Shankly Gates, after fomer manager Bill Shankly.

Bill Shankley was obviously a very large man.

Post-Anfield, we took a cab back into Liverpool's town center.  We went to some bar call The Cavern, where some band called The Beatles started. Whatever.

Actually it was very cool to be in the place where all that started.  After you enter(top left), you go down three flights of stairs into some sort of wine cellar or crypt or something.  Except now it is a bar.  It is really tiny.  There were probably about 20 tables in the place.  The stage is where the Beatles first started making music.  This is also the place where Richard Starkey(Ringo Starr--good decision) first start banging on drums behind the Beatles.  It was very cool.

After, we took a train back to Warrington for some football. (Football is British for soccer.) We watched team England demolish team Wales, 1-0. For those of you that do not know already(Yes, I am aware of the fact that there are approximately 3.5 people reading this blog), in football(soccer), if you score more than zero goals, you are doing pretty well.  Several friends from the Scouts also came over and watched, and it was great to see them.  Overall another great day.  I'm bummed that tomorrow is my last day here.

P.S. - Britian is just as gray and dreary and rainy as everybody ever said.

  1. That is so great Aaron! I am glad you have this blog so i can learn things that I wouldn't otherwise know (even after speaking with you). Glad you got to see your mates (that's British for pals--or perhaps in this case brothers)!

Perhaps you and Danny will be able to get together again before you return. Make it work!
